What’s New in GPT-4.1?
The GPT-4.1 models boast a substantial increase in context window size, now supporting up to one million tokens. This allows for the processing of extensive data inputs, such as entire books or lengthy transcripts, in a single prompt.
This mirrors a similar move by Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro, which also expanded its context window to 1 million tokens. The benefit? Developers can now pass entire codebases or large documents in a single go — dramatically improving workflows and insight.
Performance improvements are evident across various benchmarks:
- Coding: Achieved a 54.6% score on SWE-bench Verified, marking a 21% improvement over GPT-4o.
- Instruction Following: Scored 38.3% on MultiChallenge, a 10.5% increase.
- Long-Context Tasks: Reached 72.0% on Video-MME, up by 6.7%.
- Training cut-off: Updated to June 2024
